Regis College Dean of Athletics Pam Roecker announced this week that out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of students-athletes, coaches, and staff, the university will not participate in winter athletics competitions this season.

This difficult decision impacts the men’s and women’s basketball teams, men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, and men’s and women’s indoor track teams. It is also irrespective of any decision the Great Northern Athletic Conference makes regarding this winter athletics season.

“We are eager for a safe return to intercollegiate competition, with the health and safety of students, coaches, staff, and our communities in mind,” Roecker said in a letter to student-athletes. “Regis Athletics will continue to explore all options for training and engaging in meaningful on-campus practice opportunities next semester.”

Regis College’s prioritization of health and safety during the pandemic includes weekly updates on our free campus testing protocol, and will continue to guide our responses to this public health crisis.

No decisions have been made at this time about spring sports competition.
