This academic year the Pride Faculty Lecture Series will explore the topic of borders - physical, political, psychological - and how these borders impact the bonds between people within and among communities. Guest speakers will examine questions such as these: How do we maintain existing and build new bonds even as the pandemic reminds us daily of the importance of respecting boundaries in the interest of public health? In what ways do "border politics" and refugee and asylum policies around the globe need to be examined and revised in light of the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic? What can be done to counteract the "weaponization" of masks and vaccines such that these measures cease to destroy communal and familial bonds?
For fall 2021 all lectures will be on Zoom. The lectures will run for approximately 60 minutes and will be followed with a 20-minute question and answer session.
The format for spring 2022 lectures will be determined later this year.
