The Victor and William Fung Foundation in Hong Kong has donated $5 million to the Now We Fly campaign to establish the Fung Scholars Program at Regis, a leading Catholic university in Greater Boston. The program will support high-achieving students from Hong Kong and Mainland China who want to study abroad in the United States. The gift is in the name of alumna Julia Shen Fung, Victor’s wife, who graduated from Regis in 1967 and made the gift in honor of her 50th Reunion in 2017.
“We are honored by the generosity of the Fungs and are grateful to them for such a wonderful opportunity,” said President Antoinette Hays, PhD, RN. “This gift is yet another sign of our university’s growing reach to educate and prepare students to lead throughout the world.”
Regis joins a prestigious group of more than 30 other partner universities worldwide that have distinguished Fung Scholars, including five others in the United States: Boston College, Harvard University, Northeastern University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Princeton University.
The Fung Scholars Program was established by the Fung Foundation in 2006 to commemorate the centenary of the Fung Group, a trading, logistics, distribution and retail company with more than 40,000 employees in 40 countries worldwide. To date, the program has supported the educational aspirations of more than 4,500 students.
The endowed gift to Regis will fund scholarships for students at the undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels who want to study in the United States. The program is a key part of the university’s efforts to build a broader reach internationally, especially in Asia.
The program supports the international experiences of students seeking to learn in different cultures and environments. The Fungs believe that with the increasing trend of globalization, graduates with world experience are critical to the continuous progress of society
