“A career in financial planning offers a high earning capacity and is ideal for students who want to utilize their communications and leadership skills,” said William Koehler, PhD, Dean of the School of Business and Communication at Regis. “This is a great addition to the robust offerings of the School of Business and Communication and aligns very closely with our strengths in preparing future business leaders.”

“The CFP Board is pleased to approve the program at Regis College as a CFP Board Registered Program,” said Richard Salmen, CFP®, chair of CFP’s Board of Directors. “As student interest in financial planning as a career continues to grow, we anticipate that Regis’ program will contribute significantly to the number of qualified candidates seeking to attain the CFP®certification, the standard of excellence for competent and ethical financial planning.”

The Financial Planning minor and certificate program are specifically designed for careers in financial planning, including investment management, insurance planning, and health care planning. The minor and certificate are built on the foundation established by the CFP Board of Standards. Students who complete the seven-course financial planning program and hold a bachelor’s degree are eligible to sit for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) exam.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the financial planning profession is expected to grow at a faster than average rate through 2026. Median earnings for CFPs in Massachusetts, already over $100,000 annually, are likewise expected to increase more rapidly than median salaries in other industries.

The CFP Board is based in Washington, D.C. It is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to benefit the public by granting, upholding, and promoting the Certified Financial PlannerTM(CFP®) certification. Those who earn the certification are distinguishing themselves among their peers by meeting CFP Board’s education, examination, experience and ethics requirements. Students completing the financial planning program at Regis College will have met the education requirement for CFP®Certification Examination administered by the CFP Board.

The CFP Board currently oversees more than 300 programs at more than 200 institutions. CFP Board-Registered Programs are financial planning education programs at the college or university level that meet specific criteria for educating individuals who wish to fulfill the education component for obtaining CFP®certification.

The financial planning certificate is open to any students who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; the financial planning minor is open to Regis College students in any major. To enroll, contact admission@regiscollege.edu.
