In collaboration with the Center for Student Engagement, the Writing Program at Regis College announces its first campuswide research symposium, "Small Acts, Big Change," scheduled to take place on April 20, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the university’s library, and Maria and College Halls.
The symposium provides an annual platform for students, researchers, and faculty members to connect, network, and showcase their curriculum and co-curricular activities. This year's theme, "Small Acts, Big Change," draws inspiration from real-life community heroes making positive impacts in local and regional communities. Keynote speakers for the event include Leslie White Harvey, Framingham City Councilor and Nadia Raymond, director of the Global Nursing Program for Regis College who both manifest the theme through their commitment to positive change and advocacy.
"We are excited to bring together the Regis College community to explore the impact of small actions and local initiatives on driving positive change, key components of the university’s mission to serve the Dear Neighbor," said Jennifer Krusinger, associate professor, director of the writing program, and co-director of the First-Year Experience. "This symposium provides an opportunity for members of the campus community to address relevant social issues and promote equity and advocacy for oppressed or marginalized groups."
Students, researchers, and faculty members are invited to submit ongoing class and research projects focused on the symposium theme. Submissions should identify and respond to a relevant social issue or problem impacting the local or regional community, proposing meaningful solutions or discussing the consequences within the project's design or presentation.
Abstract submissions will be accepted until March 15.
Various presentation formats are encouraged, including 10 minute Panel/Conference Style Paper Discussion, three minute Thesis-SLAM Presentation and Contest, Student Poster Presentations, and Visual/Performative Art Displays and Presentations. Each format offers a unique opportunity to convey research findings and engage with the audience.
