Presidential Medal Recipient Sandra Lindsay DHSc, MS, MBA, RN took the shot felt round the world

When the 2022 Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, was awarded at the White House in July, the name Sandra Lindsay was alongside other recipients including Denzel Washington, Simone Biles and the late Steve Jobs and John McCain. If it sounds less familiar, think back to the early days of the pandemic when Dr. Lindsay, a New York critical care nurse and Director of Patient Care Services at Northwell Health Long Island Jewish Medical Center, became the first American to receive a COVID-19 vaccine outside of clinical trials. Described by the White House as “a prominent advocate for vaccines and mental health for health care workers,” she spoke with Regis College Assistant Professor and Nurses’ Station Host Lawana Brown about the honor which she shares with all members of the profession.
