Regis College was awarded a grant from the Institute of International Education (IIE) to provide first-year, Pell Grant-eligible students with the opportunity to obtain a U.S. passport, thereby opening doors for life-changing international experiences as part of their Regis education.

The college was awarded $4,125 from the American Passport Project. Created by the IIE, the project is designed to help students encountering financial barriers to global travel. By funding passport applications for 25 qualified students, the project provides students the chance to expand their horizons and grow academically and personally through international learning.

“At Regis, we believe every student should have access to the transformative power of global education,” said Megan E. Gibbons, Ph.D., Director, Center for Global Connections. “This grant from the Institute of International Education removes a key financial barrier for our students, helping ensure that international learning is not a privilege for the few, but an opportunity for all. We are deeply grateful to be part of the American Passport Project and excited to support our students as they take their first steps toward becoming global citizens.”

Through the college’s Center for Global Connections, Regis students are provided with global learning experiences by seamlessly integrating international and intercultural perspectives into the college’s teaching, learning, research, and service functions. A core component of the Regis mission is to empower students to challenge themselves academically, to serve, and to lead throughout the world. The college’s education abroad options include traditional study, internships, research, and service learning abroad. Regis students have participated in programs all over the world, and most recently in Australia, Chile, Croatia, England, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, South Korea, and Spain.

The American Passport Project works to increase access to international travel for underrepresented students, ensuring they can benefit from the academic, personal, and professional opportunities that come with global learning experiences.
