Regis College requests Congressionally Directed Spending through the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) to enhance its pre-licensure nursing program through the integration of immersive virtual reality (VR) simulation technology. This initiative directly advances FIPSE's mission by improving the quality of postsecondary nursing education and strengthening academic-practice partnerships with regional healthcare systems.
Funds will support the purchase of immersive VR equipment and AI-powered simulation software, enabling students to engage with high-risk, low-frequency clinical scenarios essential for competency development. Equipment acquisition represents a significant portion of the budget and is justified by the direct instructional purpose it serves: expanding access to standardized, repeatable clinical experiences that traditional placement alone cannot provide. Faculty stipends will support course development and curriculum integration, ensuring the technology is embedded meaningfully into program outcomes.
This project addresses critical healthcare workforce shortages by producing graduates with stronger clinical readiness, improved critical thinking, and reduced onboarding time for hospital partners. By supplementing clinical hours with high-quality simulation, Regis reduces burden on clinical placement sites while maintaining rigorous preparation standards.
No funds will be used for endowments, facility construction, or major renovation. Any physical modifications required for technology installation will constitute only minor alterations to existing, completed spaces, in full compliance with FIPSE eligibility requirements.
