Campus has been buzzing with activity all summer long! Here's a quick recap of what’s been happening.

Student News: Orientation and Athletics

We had a great fall campus-based new graduate and professional students orientation on Tuesday with 115 students. They learned about the many support services available to them, followed by a graduate student panel sharing tips for success. Thanks to the Graduate & Professional Student Affairs team, Financial Aid staff, and Program Directors for welcoming our new graduate students!

Thanks to our amazing Orientation Leaders, we had an outstanding undergraduate orientation in mid-July, welcoming 214 incoming students and their families to the Regis community!

We received incredibly positive feedback; some students shared they wouldn’t have changed a thing about their experience. That speaks volumes about the energy, care, and preparation that went into every detail.

Kudos to Undergraduate Admissions and Athletics for their strong recruitment efforts this year!

The Pride coaches and staff were excited to welcome back the fall student-athletes last weekend. Below is a group photo from a recent Athletics staff meeting to plan for the upcoming year, and a photo montage of athletes moving in.

And, congratulations to the Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Teams who have been honored with the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Award! Under the leadership of Coach Diana Matthews, these student-athletes have demonstrated exceptional commitment to both their studies and their sport.

Summer Scholars and Lorraine’s Leaders Pre-College Programs

What an amazing group of high school juniors and seniors we had the pleasure of getting to know during Regis Summer Scholars and Lorraine’s Leaders pre-college programs this summer. The 19 Summer Scholars and 12 Lorraine's Leaders impressed us by immersing themselves intellectually in two academic courses and socially by living on campus and meeting new friends.

One student shared, “Overall, the Regis Summer Scholars program was one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had so far. It gave me a head start on college-level academics, confirmed my passion for healthcare, and helped me feel more confident in myself and my future. I left the program not only with new knowledge, but with a new perspective. I now understand the importance of community, communication, and perseverance, and I’m more motivated than ever to continue pursuing my dream of working in pediatrics.”

Special thanks to the faculty and staff who supported these students including John Hernandez, Jessica Vasquez, Paola Marrero, Michael McCorveyBridget Buoniconti, Shannon Hogan, Marie Gabour-Henin, Aubrey Crosby, Kelly-Anne Dohertyand Tammy Darling. The photos below are of Summer Scholars visiting a nursing simulation lab and a group shot of Lorraine's Leaders students.

Student Scholarship Awards

Congratulations to the following students for recent scholarship awards:

DNP education track student Jennifer Wedster has been awarded $8,000 through the NLN’s Steve Cerame Nursing Education Scholarship Fund that supports nurses pursuing advanced degrees with the goal of becoming full-time nurse educators.

Five 2025-26 Remick Fellows have been selected to receive $4,000 awards:

Kederson Pierre '27 whose goal is to be an elementary school teacher wrote in his essay, “I admire the foundation's commitment to making schools more welcoming for everyone, and I am excited to help them reach their goal.”

Ainet Ramirez '28, aspiring Pre-K teacher, wrote, “The early moments are when a child's relationship with learning is formed, and I want my future students who sit in my classroom to associate school with laughter, creativity, and joy….I am committed to being the teacher who waters the seed to grow.”

Hunter Zancan '28, secondary education/humanities major, wrote, “I am on the path to graduate with my master's degree in special education and upon completion of my academic journey, my professional goal is to teach students with disabilities and where I intend to represent Regis College as I make an impact on every kid who comes into my classroom."

Dilenia Castillo, new ASN student, “[Nursing] is a profession that allows me to make a positive impact on people's lives every day. Most importantly, to be an advocate and provide the highest quality care to all patients with empathy, compassion, and dedication to my chosen field.”

Isabella Carroll '29, marketing and communication, wrote, “I want to use words and stories to challenge harmful beauty standards and share honest experiences. I believe writing and designing can make people feel seen and understood. That is why the Carole Remick Foundation’s mission means so much to me. It supports students who want to use communication to make a difference, which is exactly what I want to do.”

Faculty and Staff News and Achievements

Speaking of Remic Fellows, Professor of Communication and Carole Remick Endowed Director Colleen Malachowski hosted the 38th New England High School Journalism Collaborative closing banquet at Regis. Founded by the late Carole  Remick '54, this year’s program included 14 high school students who created and printed their very own newspaper, gaining invaluable experience in journalism. We’re proud to continue Carole’s vision of inclusive, hands-on education and storytelling that reflects the diversity of our world.

I had the pleasure of running into nursing students from Germany who are in the U.S. for a summer program. The Young School of Nursing hosted them for a one-day nursing workshop where they learned about nursing in the States and participated in a simulation activity.

I was interviewed by The Boston Globe for this article on graduate enrollment on the impact of changes to federal graduate loans. As I said in the article, our team is working on raising private funding for scholarships for grad students. We have many irons in the fire!

I was proud to stand with AICUM in supporting the federal lawsuit brought by the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration. This important effort challenges recent government actions that have threatened the stability and rights of international students on F-1 visas. With more than 80,000 international students coming to Massachusetts to pursue their education, it is critical that any changes to SEVIS processes are made transparently and in full compliance with the law. I believe strongly in protecting due process, clear communication, and stability for our international students and the colleges and universities that serve them. Know that our leadership team continues to monitor news from Washington as it impacts higher education and most importantly, our students.
