It is with great sadness that I share the news of the sudden loss of Edmund Travers, DNP, MSN, RN, Associate Professor of Nursing. Dr. Travers passed away on Monday, September 2. A double Regis College graduate, Ed earned both his MSN and DNP. With devotion to his students, he served with distinction teaching nine years at Regis since September 1, 2015. He will be missed. A community announcement will follow with information on funeral services. May he rest in peace.
Congratulations are in order for student athletes Benjamin Happenny '25 who broke the school record for fastest five-kilometer time in Regis men's cross country history (16:53.72) and Kamdyn Tenorio '25 who became the Regis women's volleyball all-time leader in service aces, currently with 220 career service aces entering the weekend.
Join me in giving a shout out to our weekly GNAC award winners:
Congratulations also to Vanessa Aiello '24 who was awarded a fellowship from Delta Epsilon Sigma, the National Catholic Honor Society, for her graduate studies in special education. Vanessa was one of only 10 students nationwide to receive this fellowship. She is pursuing her graduate degree in Education at Regis.
I'm very excited that on September 17, members of the Regis Glee Singers will sing the National Anthem for the Connecticut Sun, New England’s WNBA team! It would be wonderful if they had support from Regis community members who can attend the game.
Education faculty Priscilla Boerger and Lauren Bent recently earned a certificate in the "Effective Teaching Practice Framework" through the Association of College and University Educators. They look forward to applying more evidence-based teaching and learning practices at Regis!
Lauren was also recently appointed to the Harvard Business Review Advisory Council.
We are thrilled to be honoring Ophelia Dahl, Co-Founder of Partners In Health, with the 2024 Shining Example at the Let It Shine Gala on Wednesday, October 30 for her outstanding contributions to global health and social justice. It is with the support of Ophelia and Partners In Health that Regis in Haiti was launched in 2007, allowing Regis to expand its reach and serve the dear neighbor in Haiti.
I hope you can join me that evening as we shine a light on Ophelia’s work and support our student scholars. 100% of funds raised go to student scholarships!
Faculty and staff have the opportunity to support a collective Dear Neighbor Sponsorship, where gifts of all sizes can add to make a big impact. Learn more and register.
The campus is buzzing and many events are scheduled throughout this week and next week. Check out the website calendar to see what is happening.
Please be sure you mark your calendar for the annual opening celebration Convocation on Tuesday, September 10. The Staff Appreciation and Recognition Day on Thursday, September 12 is sure to be a great time. If you can make it, we'd love to see you at the first worship service of the year, the Mass of the Holy Spirit on Sunday, September 8. Look for details on all these events and more in Pride Points.
