FAFSA Verification

Students who submit a FAFSA may be selected for a process called Federal Verification. The Federal Central Processing Service (CPS) selects FAFSA applications either by a random sort or because of conflicting information. To complete this process we review data reported on your FAFSA and confirm its accuracy. Students and parents must complete a federal verification worksheet and during our review we may request additional documentation, as required by law. Students who will need to provide additional documents will receive a missing information request via mail or email from the Financial Aid Office letting you know what documents are needed. It’s important that you address the request because a financial aid award offer will not be made until all required material is received. If you have been awarded prior to completing the verification process and there are any changes to the financial aid package as a result of verification, the student will be sent a revised financial aid award letter.

IRS Data Retrieval Process

Students and parents are urged to utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) to instantly transfer your tax information directly into your FAFSA. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool is fast, accurate, secure, and streamlines the FAFSA filing and Verification process. If you have already filed your FAFSA for the 2018-2019 year, please update it by logging back into your FAFSA and use the Data Retrieval Tool to import your 2016 tax information. Students and Parents may use the DRT in lieu of submitting 2016 federal tax transcripts (if requested by the Financial Aid Office).

Students and parents who do not or cannot use the IRS data retrieval process when filing a FAFSA may be required to provide a 2016 IRS tax transcript if selected for verification. A tax transcript can be obtained through the IRS website at:

  • Order it online from the IRS website
  • Or by downloading IRS Form 4506-T and mail the form to the IRS
  • Or by calling the IRS at 1.800.908.9946

Tax transcripts should not be sent to Regis. Please have this form sent to you directly and then forward to Regis with the student name and ID number written across the top of the page.

2018-2019 Forms

Please only submit requested forms. If we need to request you fill out additional forms, you will receive an email or letter to your home address, indicating which forms we need from you. (Please contact the Center for Student Services if forms are needed for 2017-2018).

Submit your forms by faxing them to us at 781.768.7225. We accept faxes 24 hours a day. Students can also bring their forms in person to the Center for Student Services, College Hall Room 221 at Regis College. These are the most secure method of getting us your completed forms. We do not recommend forms be sent to us via an email attachment as email is not a private or confidential method of communication. You may also mail your forms to:
