The secondary education program prepares future educators to work in public school classrooms from the fifth through twelfth grades. Students can elect to focus on either English or history as their major and future content area for teaching.

The option may exist for students to gain the curriculum content in both English and history throughout their programming. Students must work closely with their advisor to pursue this option which would enable them to add an additional licensure post graduation.

Teaching in the Public School System

To be eligible to teach in public schools, educators must earn a license from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) by passing all required Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) exams.
