Resident Assistant Community Engagement

The Office of Residence Life strives to cultivate a fun, social, and respectful home away from home for our residents. In doing so, our office integrates the core values of Regis College’s mission within events, conversation, and role modeling. Throughout the academic year, all 26 Resident Assistants are tasked to build strong, supportive, and inclusive communities by incorporating the following tasks into their respective residence halls:

  • Be an ongoing resource to their residents through connecting in-person regularly
  • Plan, advertise, and implement events
  • Promote, encourage attendance, and be present for campuswide events
  • Display educational and mission-driven content on designated bulletin boards
  • Create name tag decorations for each resident to be posted on doors each semester

Through the Community Engagement Model expectations, the Resident Assistant team will lead fun and thoughtful engagement around many topics such as:

  • Diversity and Inclusion
  • Leadership Development
  • Mental Health and Wellness
  • Alcohol and Drug Awareness
  • Sexual Violence Prevention and Healthy Relationships

R Councils

R Councils are a series of forums scheduled throughout the academic year to provide residential students the opportunity to:

  • Take ownership of and have advocacy for their living environment and college experience
  • Identify, articulate, and address concerns within their community to Residence Life staff

Monthly forums, called "R Councils", will be facilitated by both the hall director and the Senior Resident Assistant of each residential community. These forums will allow students to openly share feedback and positive attributes of living on campus. By providing a voice for our residents, the Office of Residence Life aspires to enact progressive change and accentuate positive aspects of living on campus to continue enhancing life in our residence halls.

First Year Seminar (FYS) Cafe

In collaboration with the Institute for Learning staff, the Office of Residence Life has developed a series called "FYS Cafe" that strives to:

  • Explore the notion of vocation through listening and prompting questions around the personal and professional trajectories of their First Year Seminar Faculty
  • Connect first-year students to an “anchor” with whom they can connect even before individual learning needs arise
  • Connect first-year students with their peers and academic coaches
  • Engage students through intentional and motivational programming
  • Encourage student movement towards greater independence and personal responsibility through self-reflection, personal responsibility for goal achievement, and self-advocacy

First Year Seminar students are required to attend at least one of the scheduled FYS Cafes over the course of the fall semester.

Adulting 101

Adulting 101 is a monthly event focused on life after graduation. Transitioning out of the residence halls and college can be challenging, but it is our hope that Adulting 101 will encourage conversations about the next steps of our students’ journeys. All students are welcome to attend. Previous topics have focused on Financial Literacy, Health Insurance, Apartment Searching, Preparing for your first full-time job, and more. If you have questions or suggestions about the Adulting 101 program, please reach out to the Residence Life staff.
