Post Master’s Graduate Certificate Program in Higher Education Leadership

Regis College’s Post Master’s Graduate Certificate Program in Higher Education Leadership is a four course certificate designed for master’s or doctorally prepared university or college administrators, who are looking to expand, broaden, and renew their understanding and expertise in higher education. Students in the Post-Master’s Certificate in Higher Education Leadership program engage in analysis of higher education issues, trends, and organizational structures in order to improve their leadership capabilities and effectiveness in higher education administration.

The program is directly aimed at working professionals in education and other leadership venues serving in capacities that focus on:

  • Academic or organizational administration;
  • Teaching and learning;
  • Institutional research, planning and advancement; and
  • Higher education generally, including areas such as policy and advocacy


Students enrolled in the certificate include:

  • Individuals who have decided not to engage in a full doctoral degree at this time;
  • Individuals/Professionals who are in the process of applying to a doctoral program*; and
  • Doctorally prepared administrators seeking additional expertise in a new area of higher education administration.

*Two courses will transfer into Regis College’s Ed.D. program (start date for first cohort: January 2014). Student must be granted acceptance into Ed. D. program for courses to be transferred.

Similar to all graduate programs at Regis, the Post-Master's Certificate in Higher Education Leadership uses a flexible, hybrid course format to meet the needs of working adults, who are looking to balance professional, personal and academic commitments.

There are a variety of distinguishing features of the Regis Programs, including:

  • Weekend or evening hybrid courses: During the academic year, in-class meetings fall on 4 weekends per semester;
  • Faculty working in the higher education field, bring rea- world experience to the classroom;
  • A cohort model for the Ed.D. program;
  • Faculty accessibility and dedication, in conjunction with small classes, result in a culture fostering student success;
  • Students engage in three capstone experiences in lieu of dissertation for the Ed.D.

Requirements for Admission to Program of Study

General Requirements

  • An earned Master’s degree from an accredited institution;
  • A minimum of a 3.0 GPA in a Master’s level program;
  • GRE or MAT*

*GRE/MAT may be waived by receiving a grade of B or better in first 2 doctoral courses.

Admission Process for Post-Master’s Program

  • GRE or MAT*
  • Writing sample:
      • General application and introduction letter (500 words)
      • Statement of professional goals (approximately 1,000 words) explaining how doctoral work in Higher Education Leadership will help fulfill them.

*GRE/MAT may be waived by receiving a grade of B or better in first 2 doctoral courses.
