Arriving at Regis

Regis welcomes international students and conducts an orientation program at the start of each semester. International Student Orientation (ISO) combines fun activities with helpful workshops, English and math assessments, and presentations on academic support, technology services, and residence life. You will also have a chance to meet our faculty and staff, connect with other Regis students, and meet your classmates.

It is important for you to arrive as instructed on the day before ISO in order to fully participate in orientation activities. Students who miss the first week of classes will not be permitted to move into the residence halls or enroll in classes.

Please email The Center for Global Connections indicating your estimated arrival time so we will know when to expect you.

Early Arrival

Regis College does not provide on-campus housing until the day before orientation is scheduled to begin. If you arrive in the United States before the move-in date, you will be responsible for finding your own hotel accommodations.

Living at Regis

Many Regis students live on campus in residence halls. The majority of students are placed in double rooms with a roommate, and a few are assigned to triple or single rooms depending upon availability. Trained Resident Directors (RDs) and Resident Assistants (RAs) also live on campus. They provide students with creative and informative programming and serve as a resource for information about events and activities, departments, and services.

Supplies

International students typically pack clothing for their trip to the United States and wait until moving in before purchasing linens, supplies, and personal accessories. The university will provide transportation to local shopping centers and outlet malls during orientation so that you may buy everything need to settle in.

Note

  • For safety reasons, cooking appliances such as rice cookers, toaster ovens, and hot plates are not allowed in any residence hall. Please do not bring these items to campus or they will be confiscated.
  • There are no storage facilities in the residence halls for luggage, so it will be necessary to keep your suitcases in your room. We strongly suggest that you pack only two suitcases for your trip to the United States. You can always ship extra items to your Regis College address. Packages shipped well enough in advance will be here when you arrive.

Off-Campus Housing

Situated just 12 miles from Boston, America's greatest college city and an international hub, Regis is surrounded by many great communities for international students. If you would like assistance in finding an apartment nearby, please feel free to contact The Center for Global Connections.

Weather in New England

Massachusetts enjoys four distinct seasons (winter, spring, summer, and fall) with average temperatures ranging from 85° F (29° C) to 20° F (-7° C). April to June and September to November are mild but winter can sometimes be cold. Daytime temperatures are near freezing from December to March, with an occasional drop to 5° (-15° C). Winter at Regis is similar to Sapporo (Japan), Seoul (Korea), Eastern and Northern Europe, and New York City.

Cold weather clothing is available in stores near the Regis campus, but you may want to buy your own style and brand from home. Bring a warm parka or coat (a jacket is not enough), warm sweaters, warm socks, a scarf, a hat that can be pulled down over your ears, insulated gloves or mittens, and high boots for snow.
