Regis College Haiti Project (RCHP)
Conceived in 2007, the Regis College Haiti Project (RCHP) or International Nurse Faculty Partnership Initiative (INFPI) aims to improve access to quality health care in Haiti by addressing the acute nursing shortage and the call for an advancement of nursing education in Haiti.
The Regis School of Nursing and Health Sciences has partnered with the Haitian Ministry of Health, private and public nursing school leaders in Haiti, and the Boston- based medical charity Partners In Health (PIH) to launch an innovative, advanced education and leadership program for Haitian nursing faculty (most of whom have the equivalent of an associate’s degree) across Haiti. Upon graduation from this master’s program, the first cohort of Haitian nursing faculty will lead the institutionalization of the program in Haiti for all future cohorts.
Even before the devastating earthquake in January 2010, Haiti struggled with a severe shortage of healthcare workers, poor infrastructure and routine lack of healthcare. Today, Regis is committed, as part of the international community, to help build and enhance the human infrastructure of Haiti’s health system with the Regis College Haiti Project.
In addition, the program presents extraordinary service learning opportunities for Regis faculty and doctoral nursing students, as well as other Massachusetts-based partners, including but not limited to a unique cross-cultural collaboration that will promote additional cross- cultural awareness, understanding and competence.
