Shea Takes Top Regis Award, Honored As Mother Regis

Four years of undying dedication, community involvement, and athletic achievement stood at the forefront of the recently held 2007-2008 Athletic Awards Ceremony. The Mother Regis Award, presented annually to a graduating senior, recognizes the pinnacle of Regis College Athletics. The 2007-2008 award was deservedly presented to senior women’s soccer captain Katelynn Shea of Westfield, Massachusetts.
Among the criteria for selection, the honoree must demonstrate academic excellence, outstanding contributions to athletics, and excellence through leadership and service including involvement both within and outside the Regis community. Shea fully exemplified the spirit of the award through her four-year athletic career. Shea played four years of soccer for the Pride, and competed for two years with the lacrosse program, and two years with the basketball program. As a member of the soccer program, Shea served as captain for both her junior (2006) and senior (2007) seasons. She was named her team’s Most Valuable Player following her freshman (2004) and junior seasons. In addition, the central midfielder was placed on The Commonwealth Coast Conference Honorable Mention Team as a freshman, and claimed Second Team All-Conference Honors as a junior.
This year’s Mother Regis served as a Resident Assistant for three years in Student Life, completed four years as a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), serving as Secretary from 2007 to 2008. Shea contributed as the Secretary of the Senior Class, served on the Campus Ministry Service Trip to Peru in 2006, and represented Regis at the 2006 NCAA National Leadership Conference.
A consistent Dean’s List recipient, Shea received the SAAC Scholar-Athlete Award every year since its inception two years ago, and is a member of the National Honor Society for Communications.
