Advisory Board for Communication
Bonnie Jefferson received her PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a retired faculty member from the Communication Department at Boston College where she directed the undergraduate program and supervised the honors senior theses. Dr. Jefferson taught a large lecture hall course entitled “The Rhetorical Tradition” which was the entry course into the major and often had three to four hundred students enrolled in it. She has also served on the National Communication Association’s Educational Policies Board and was the recipient of the Eastern Communication Association’s Ecroyd Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Jessica Lavery-Pozerski is a corporate communication professional with over eight years experience specializing in the software and technology industry. In her current position at Veracode, Jessica manages all public relations and communication activity for the company. Prior to Veracode, Jessica ran public relations activities for Sophos in North America, as well as Astaro’s (acquired by Sophos) North America marketing activities. Her work at Astaro ranged from public relations activities to partner marketing, events and marketing programs management. She has also held communication positions at Progress Software and PTC, both technology companies with headquarters in Massachusetts. Jessica earned a bachelor of arts degree from Newbury College and a master of science degree from Regis College, both in communication.
Kimberley Ring is the principal and founder of Ring Communications, a boutique integrated marketing firm located just outside of Boston. Ring Communications was founded in 2007 and provides marketing, public relations and social media services to clients of all sizes, and across a wide variety of industries. She has almost twenty years of corporate and agency experience, working primarily with hospitality, lifestyle, sports and non-profit brands. She holds a master's degree in integrated marketing communications from Emerson College, and a bachelor's degree in public relations from Florida State University.
Justin is a sports marketing and branding professional with over 10 years' experience in the retail service sports and professional athletes and sports industries. For the past 7 years he has been a managing partner for Sports Identity conceptualizing and brokering marketing and promotional plans and campaigns for athletes, companies and non profit organizations incorporating media, event, property, content and grassroots programming in them. In addition he helped launch the startup software BrandMatch Score, a market research tool for companies and agencies that quantifies the value of and rates the alignment between brands and potential endorses.
Justin holds a master's in sports leadership and management, Northeastern University. He is a lifelong Massachusetts native from the North Shore to Central Mass. He now lives in Webster, MA with his wife and 3 month old daughter.
Karen Holmes Ward is the director of public affairs and community services as well as host and executive producer of "CityLine," WCVB-TV’s award-winning weekly magazine program which addresses the accomplishments, concerns and issues facing people of color living in Boston and its suburbs. Many notables including Oscar winners Octavia Spencer and Denzel Washington and Oscar nominees Taraji P. Henson, Oprah Winfrey, Louis Gossett and Quvenzhane Wallis have been interviewed by Holmes Ward for "CityLine." "CityLine" has been a recipient of the Associated Press Massachusetts/Rhode Island ‘Best’ Public Affairs Program and numerous Emmy nominations.
Holmes Ward also oversees WCVB’s public service and community outreach efforts including the station’s work on "Extreme Makeover: My Hometown," raising awareness about the need for affordable housing in the Greater Boston area, and WCVB’s first-of-its-kind web-based initiative, "Commonwealth 5." This on-line project promotes philanthropy by matching viewer-donors with non-profits via the Internet. "CommonWealth 5" was nominated for a National Emmy Award. Ward served as executive producer for "Return to Glory," a one-hour prime-time documentary hosted by Emmy Award-winning actor Andre Braugher about the famed Massachusetts 54th Regiment. "Return to Glory" was syndicated nationally and seen in over 80% of the country.
A graduate of Boston University’s School of Public Communications (now COM) , Karen has received numerous awards for her work in the community including the Boston Jaycees Ten Outstanding Young Leaders Award; National Association of Black Journalists Region I Journalist of the Year; Big Sister of Greater Boston Achievement Award; Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts President’s Award; Women of Courage and Conviction Award from the Greater Boston Section National Council of Negro Women, Inc. among others.
