Julianne Marrone Ambrose
Human Resource Manager
In 2003, Julianne Marrone Ambrose was enjoying her job in the Human Resources department at EMC in Hopkinton. She had earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development/ HR Management at Boston College and was putting that education to work in various HR jobs first at Morgan Stanley in New York City and then at EMC. After a couple of years in the workforce, she realized that she needed something more to get to the next career level. "I was looking to broaden my skills. I needed a program that would mesh with my work schedule, that would be convenient geographically, and most important, would provide the courses and experience and I needed to grow in my career," she said.
After exploring a number of graduate programs in the Greater Boston area, Julianne selected Regis. "I did a lot of research, comparing curriculum choices and faculty. The course selections in the Organizational Communication program–including crisis communication, conflict resolution, public relations, and intercultural communication—were just what I wanted. And the faculty, a mix of professors and professionals from the business world, brought a strong combination of theory and real world experiences. That was a huge plus for me," she said.
Since earning her master's degree at Regis, Julianne has joined Watson Wyatt, a global Human Capital Consulting firm with more than 7,000 associates in 34 countries. As HR manager for the Boston office, she has overall responsibility for all aspects of HR, including staffing, recruiting, employee relations and training and development for 200 associates.
In 2008 Julianne was chosen as global project manager for Watson Wyatt’s Associate Engagement Survey, leading a team of more than 10 colleagues from the initial design phase through the final report. The survey was rolled out in 14 languages and was available to 7,000 employees in 34 countries. "The graduate courses I took at Regis—employee communication, research, intercultural communication -- were invaluable during this project," she said. "The combination of theoretical knowledge, practical information shared by professionals working in the field, and the hands-on project experience gave me the foundation and the confidence I needed to manage this project successfully."
Recently, Julianne’s career has a taken a new turn. She has entered the world of working mothers. She gave birth to her second child in June and now has two babies at home. "It will certainly be challenging to balance work and home life, but Watson Wyatt provides some flexibility and I am confident I will make it work. I am looking forward to this next chapter in my life and career," she said.
