Family
The Family Nurse Practitioner specialty offers registered nurses advancement in pharmacology, pathophysiology, and health assessment with nursing theory, process, and research. Clinical management of families through the life cycle is applied in a variety of health care settings as they relate to the family system. Students have extensive experience in adult, geriatric, pediatric, and women’s health primary care. The curriculum meets American Nurses Credential Center (ANCC) and American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) criteria for certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Psychiatric Mental Health
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialty offers registered nurses the opportunity to develop advanced skills in mental health nursing. Students in this program will meet ANCC criteria for certification as an Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. This program is geared toward the diagnosis and management of psychiatric mental health clients. The Regis College program is unique in that a substantial portion of the academic and clinical curriculum focuses on the geriatric population. While student clinical experiences will encompass work with adults of all ages, many clinical placement hours will be devoted to working with older adults in a variety of settings. Significant classroom attention will also be given to the diagnosis and management of problems in this population such as dementia, depression related to loss and aging, anxiety, and the interaction of pharmacological agents, which can cause psychiatric problems in this population. This program will prepare students with the skills necessary to diagnose and manage the fastest growing segment of our population.
Women’s Health
The Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner specialty offers registered nurses advancement in pharmacology, pathophysiology, and health assessment with nursing theory, process, and research. Clinical management of women from adolescents to geriatrics is applied in a variety of health care settings as they relate to gynecology, reproduction, and primary care. Program content will focus on issues of health, policy, organizational issues, access to care, and advanced professional practice as they relate to the pediatric client.
