Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics
The Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics is designed to introduce health care providers to the informatics industry; its current state of the art, systems and management. Students will learn essential competencies needed to participate in the strategic leadership of information systems and explore the industry through a self designed practice mentorship. The program will employ a case study method/problem based method in the classroom. Faculty will work with students to design a field experience most appropriate to meet their professional goals. The certificate will be comprised of three didactic courses and a field/mentorship experience.
Graduate Certificate in Gerontology
The certificate program is designed for students who wish to prepare for work with older adults and for professionals already working with the elderly. Nurses, physicians, health care administrators, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and social workers are among those for whom this certificate is designed. The program provides a background of basic knowledge in gerontology and permits students to acquire knowledge, in the physical, emotional, spiritual, social, political and economic issues related to aging through a multidisciplinary approach.
Graduate Certificate in Communication for Health Care Professionals
Candidates with a bachelor's degree who seek a Graduate Certificate in Communication for Health Care Professionals complete four courses of study (12 credits) listed below. This certificate provides graduate students with communication strategies and tools which they can employ in dealing with problems and issues in today's health care environment.
Required Courses:
CO 612 Health Communication Management
CO 601 Intercultural Communication in the Workplace
Choice of either:
CO 613 Writing for the Professional Workplace, or
CO 605 Communication in the Electronic Age
Choice of either:
CO 609 Conflict Resolution and Negotiation, or
CO 610 Crisis Communication/Media Relations
Graduate Certificate in Public Policymaking
The Graduate Certificate in Public Policymaking is designed for candidates with baccalaureate degrees and/or masters degrees who wish to advance in professional training or seek a career working in the policymaking field. Candidates usually seek the Graduate Certificate either as a first venture into graduate studies or as a supplement to a graduate degree that they have earned or are currently pursuing.
Certificate Requirements
Candidates with a bachelor's degree who seek a Graduate Certificate in Public Policymaking complete three courses of study (9 credits) listed below. Each of the three courses are practical and hands-on, requiring students to conduct individual research in the field and gain insight into the policymaking process surrounding specific policy topics of their choice. The program is a part-time, one-year program. For those candidates who are working full-time, evening, weekend, and on-line courses are offered. Please note that the courses taken for the Graduate Certificate can be applied toward a Masters Degree in Public Administration.
