Frequently Asked Commencement Questions
How do I know if I am eligible to graduate?
You must meet all academic and financial requirements. Please check with your advisor if you have any questions. You must be financially cleared to graduate.
Do I need tickets for Commencement?
Yes. On May 12, 2018, commencement will be held at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion in the Boston Seaport. The gates will open at 9:00a.m. and Commencement will begin promptly at 10:00a.m. General admission tickets are required to enter. Children over the age of 3 need a ticket to enter.
Registering for Tickets and Transportation
Each degree candidate received notification from the Office of the President with a link to reserve transportation to/from the venue and reserve up to six tickets. If it is determined that additional tickets become available, each degree candidate will receive notification from the Office of the President and the extra tickets will be available on a first-come, first-serve waitlist. Every effort is being made to ensure all graduates receive the amount of tickets they need.
The Blue Hills Bank Pavilion, located at 290 Northern Avenue, Boston MA, is an outdoor amphitheater in the Boston Seaport that seats approximately 5,000.
Please take into consideration that the venue is on the waterfront, therefore cool spring breezes coming in off the water may make the air significantly cooler than in other parts of the city. Appropriate dress and removable layers are key to staying comfortable in Boston’s unpredictable climate.
We encourage students not to leave any belongings unattended while at the Pavilion. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

A - Z Venue Information
All bags are subject to search upon entry. Guests have the right to refuse a bag search and the venue has the right to refuse entry. If you have any items that are not allowed into the venue please return them to your vehicle.
Signs larger than 8.5 X 11 in are not permitted into the venue so not to block other guests view of the stage. This size is the same size as a standard sheet of paper.
Children 3 and under do not require a ticket, but must sit on a parent's lap. Strollers are not allowed in the venue.
Concessions are located throughout the venue's concourse area and refreshments are available for purchase.
In the event of an emergency while on site Blue Hills Bank Pavilion employs a trained paramedic from Boston Emergency Medical Services to assist with any medical issues. First aid is located near the entry gates, but any staff member with a radio can dispatch First Aid to the location needed. Local law enforcement officers are also on site for every event and can assist if needed or requested.
Guests are expected to behave respectfully and in accordance with venue policy, state and local laws. Any guest that is acting in a manner that venue management deems unsafe can be subject to eviction.
Items allowed to be brought in to venue:
- Average size bags/back packs and are subject to search
- Cameras – nonprofessional only, no detachable lenses
- Food – in a clear, 1-gallon ziplock bag
- Water – up to 1 gallon in a factory sealed or empty bottle
Items not allowed to be brought in to venue include, but are not limited to:
- Weapons of any kind
- Illegal drugs/substances
- Glass containers
- Hard sides/large coolers
- Large or oversized bags/back packs, such as luggage, duffel bags, or industrial/camping-sized back packs
- Laser pointers
- Selfie sticks
- Animals (except for service animals)
- Noisemakers of any kind, including air horns
Blue Hills Bank Pavilion participates in a venue wide recycling program. You will find recycling bins located though-out the venue. Please recycle where possible.
Restrooms are located on both sides of the main concourse surrounding the seating areas.
Re-Entry is not permitted at Blue Hills Bank Pavilion. Please ensure that everything you will need for the event is brought in with you. If you do leave at any point during the ceremony - you will not be allowed back in the venue.
Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the venue per order of the Boston Public Health Commission. We appreciate your cooperation.
Umbrellas may be used to get to and from the venue, but umbrellas may not be deployed when guests are coming through the entry gates or in the venue, for the safety of all our guests.
The Blue Hills Bank Pavilion is ADA compliant and wheelchair accessible. The Pavilion will have a few wheelchairs available for transport from car to seating only. Families with guests with mobility issues should drive to the front door of the Pavilion and a Regis volunteer will be of assistance. Please please complete a Special Needs Request Form (available in the Office of Campus Police located in College Hall 102, 781-768-7111), and return it to Campus Police to discuss his/her needs. Special provisions will be available only to those who contact Campus Police.
Personalized graduation announcements/invitations are available through Jostens, Inc. for those who are interested. Orders can be placed through Jostens directly at Graduation Announcements and Class Rings.
Where Do I Pick Up My Regalia (cap and gown) and Tickets for Graduation?
Any student who wishes to participate in the Commencement Ceremony will be required to wear proper regalia. Regalia (caps, gowns, tassels, and hoods) and graduation tickets will be available at the Grad Fair (April 12, 2018 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the Lower Student Center) for pick-up. Please make every effort to attend. The cost of cap/gown/tassel and hood are included in your 2018 graduation fee.*
After the Grad Fair:
Regalia (caps, gowns, tassels and hoods) may be picked up at the Regis College Bookstore during regular store hours (Mon/Wed/Thurs 10am - 4pm; Tues 10am - 6pm; Fri 10am - 2pm). To provide you with the correct gown and hood set, the Regis College Bookstore will need to know the degree you will be receiving and your height. If you have any questions, please call the Bookstore directly at 781-768-8119.
Tickets may be picked up from the Center for Student Services during normal business hours (Mon - Thurs 9am - 5:30pm; Fri 9am - 4:30pm). Students will be required to provide identification and sign for their tickets. Tickets cannot be reprinted or reproduced. These are the only tickets you will receive so do not lose them. And sorry, friends cannot pick up tickets for friends.
* The cost of regalia for DNP and EdD students is not included in the 2018 graduation fee. DNP and EdD students must order their regalia through the bookstore. The Bookstore can be contacted directly at 781-768-8119 if you have any questions.
Deadline for EdD and DNP orders is March 12, 2018. It takes approximately 6-7 weeks for the DNP regalia to be shipped. Please order early.
What is the Baccalaureate Ceremony?
The Baccalaureate ceremony celebrates the completion of an undergraduate academic career and is usually a time to recognize formally the achievements of students who have earned academic excellence. Hence the bestowal of awards.
Besides recognizing achievement, the Baccalaureate marks a joyous occasion for the whole community. As a Catholic university sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston, Regis has always celebrated the Baccalaureate with a special liturgy in order to give thanks and praise to God, to honor our spiritual legacy, and to rejoice with one another. All are welcome to attend.
The Baccalaureate Ceremony will take place on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. under the tent at the Tower Garden. Candidates for a bachelor’s degree need to report to the Upper Student Center no later than 2:30 p.m. for instructions and procession line. Wear your gown and carry the hood (no cap). We recommend wearing black shoes. Families are invited to proceed directly to the tent.

One of my guests is handicapped. What should I do?
If you have handicapped or special needs guest(s) attending any Commencement event, please complete a Special Needs Request Form (available in the Office of Campus Police located in College Hall 102, 781-768-7111), and return it to Campus Police to discuss his/her needs. Special provisions will be available only to those who contact Campus Police.
Is Baccalaureate being filmed?
Academic ceremonies, including Commencement, are important to the history and tradition of Regis. Graduates who have specific academic achievements may wear a ceremonial medal, honor cord, or stole bestowed upon them by Regis. Shoes and other articles of clothing worn by graduates should be of dark colors that harmonize with the academic costume. Candidates for degrees must wear robes appropriate to their degree.
What Is the Schedule?
For students/faculty/staff who pre-registered for transportation, buses will leave from the Student Center beginning at 7:30am. The last bus will leave Regis promptly at 8am. If you miss the bus, you are on your own to find transportation to the venue.
If you are facing the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion, the graduate entrance is to the left of the main gate and will be marked. Commencement staff members will be on duty to direct students to the appropriate entrance. You must be inside the venue at 9:00am at the latest for lineup. Remember!! Any bags brought into the venue are subject to search. Students should not leave their personal items unattended at the Pavilion. Any items left in the student robing area during commencement may be discarded at the discretion of the venue.
Commencement begins promptly at 10:00am and will conclude at approximately noon.
Will my picture be taken at Commencement?
Hockmeyer Studios/Essex Commencement Photos will be taking your picture at Commencement. They may be contacted at 978-388-9832. Family members are not allowed access to the stage to take individual photos.
What happens it if rains?
The Commencement ceremony will take place takes place rain or shine.
Where can I get some water or buy something to eat or drink?
Concession stands will be open at the Blue Hills Pavilion.
Lodging and Transportation

Parking is available for Blue Hills Bank Pavilion patrons at the Seaport Hotel Garage and the EDIC Garage; both are within a short walk of the Pavilion. The Seaport Hotel Garage can be accessed from Seaport Boulevard. The Seaport Boulevard entrance is at the intersection of Seaport Boulevard and B Street, three blocks before the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion. The EDIC garage is on Northern Avenue. Follow Northern Avenue past the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion, straight around the rotary and it will be ahead on the right.
Take the MBTA subway, commuter rail, or bus to South Station and connect with the MBTA Silver Line Waterfront (one level above the Red Line, one level below the food court) to Silver Line Way. You will see the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion which is a short walk from this stop.
Directions from Logan International Airport and Route 1A South
Follow the signs towards I-90 West - Ted Williams Tunnel. Take the Ted Williams Tunnel/I-90 West to Exit 25 "South Boston". At the top of the ramp proceed straight onto B Street. At the end of B Street, take a right onto Seaport Boulevard. Seaport Boulevard becomes Northern Avenue. Blue Hills Bank Pavilion will be approximately 1/3 mile ahead on the left.
Directions from Western Massachusetts via Massachusetts Turnpike
Follow the Massachusetts Turnpike /Interstate 90 East to Exit 25 "South Boston". At the top of the ramp, bear left towards "Seaport Boulevard" and at the first set of lights proceed straight onto East Service Road. At the next set of lights, take a right onto Seaport Boulevard. Seaport Boulevard becomes Northern Avenue. Blue Hills Bank Pavilion will be approximately 1/3 mile ahead on the left.
Directions from Points South via I-93
Heading northbound on Interstate 93 towards Boston, take Exit 20, which will be immediately after Exit 18. Follow the signs towards "I-90 East". Take the first tunnel exit to "South Boston". At the first set of lights at the top of the ramp, proceed straight onto East Service Road. At the next set of lights, take a right onto Seaport Boulevard. Seaport Boulevard becomes Northern Avenue. Blue Hills Bank Pavilion will be approximately 1/3 mile ahead on the left.
Directions from Points North via I-93
Heading southbound on Interstate 93 Boston, take Exit 23 "Purchase Street/South Station". At the top of the ramp, take a left onto Seaport Boulevard and proceed over the Moakley Bridge, Seaport Boulevard. Seaport Boulevard becomes Northern Avenue. Blue Hills Bank Pavilion will be approximately 1.0 mile ahead on the left.
Directions from Points West via Storrow Drive
Take Storrow Drive East to Leverett Circle and follow signs for Interstate 93 South. Once on Interstate 93 South, follow directions from "Points North".
What time will Commencement conclude?
Commencement exercises will conclude by approximately noon.
How do I receive my diploma?
Diplomas can be picked up beginning on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Center for Student Services during normal business hours. After 30 days, all diplomas will be mailed to the address provided on the "Information Questionnaire" form. If you have any questions, please contact The Center for Student Services directly at 781-768-7270.
I cannot get to the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion on Saturday, can I still follow the ceremony?
Yes, Commencement will be streaming live on our web site.
Is Commencement being filmed? Can I get a copy?
Will there be souvenirs available?
You can order souvenirs and diploma frames any time from the Regis Bookstore online. The Bookstore will also have a table at the event where you can purchase Regis items.
General Information for Faculty and Staff ONLY
Parking and Transportation (Reservations Required)
Faculty and staff are requested to be at the venue no later than 8:00am.
Reserved parking is located at 302 Northern Avenue, Boston, directly to the right of Yankee Lobster. Those who pre-registered for parking will receive a map and parking placard when they become available. A parking attendant will be there to assist and will have a complete list of personnel allowed to park. If you missed the deadline to register for parking, we are providing buses.
Buses will leave from Regis beginning at 7:30am. Faculty are requested to be at the Upper Student Center by 7:15am for boarding. Return: Buses will leave the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion on a staggered schedule (12:30pm; 1:00pm; 1:30pm and last bus leaving the venue at 2:00pm).
Enter the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion following the signs listed as VIP/Faculty/Staff Entrance.
