Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) provide excellent learning opportunities without a commitment to engaging in every aspect of the course. These content resources are meant to support classroom instruction.
The following are free courses offered on the Coursera platform and require account registration at coursera.org to enroll. These self-paced courses are offered on a regular basis but do have enrollment deadlines.
Quantitative Methods – Syllabus includes six topics covered in approximately 8 hours of video lecture divided into 62 videos, including optional bonus videos (average of 6 minutes/video). Quizzes at the end of each topic. Optional final exam. Transcript in PDF format of individual sections and/or the entire course.
Topics include history, philosophy and foundation of the scientific method, research designs, measurement, sampling and ethics with an emphasis on research validity and integrity.
Qualitative Research Methods
Qualitative Research Methods – Syllabus includes six topics covered in approximately 8.5 hours of video lecture divided into 40 videos (average of 12.75 minute/video). Optional quizzes, midterm and final exam. Downloadable PDF slides.
Topics include philosophy of qualitative research, observation, good practices and criteria, qualitative interviewing, qualitative analysis, writing and ethics.
