Program Coordinator, Co-Director of Museum Studies
In 1990 Sister Catherine Meade initiated the Regis College museum studies program in collaboration with Dr. Susan Nessen of the Art Department. They were responding to a trend that had emerged in HI 304 Contemporary Historical Activity, the junior seminar required of both history and art history majors. Through the years many Regis students have chosen a museum setting for their internship, developed an interest in museums, and went on to employment in the field. Museum studies became a minor program in 1995 and a major program in 2000.
S. Catherine is the former chair of the History Department, where her courses included American Architecture, City Planning, Women's History, and Medieval History. In 1991 these interests came together in the publication of My Nature is Fire: Saint Catherine of Siena, a study of a medieval woman residing in a medieval city noted for its outstanding art and architecture.
S. Catherine is the author of Catherine of Siena: To Purify God's Church, published in 2006 by the Society of St. Paul, Alba House. She has presented both this research and her study of Morrison House at Regis College to numerous audiences at both local and professional organizations.
