Regis College to Inaugurate New $8.5 Million Outdoor Athletic Complex on April 24April 24, 2010
Weston, Mass.— Regis College will celebrate the inaugural season of its new multi-million dollar outdoor athletic fields on Saturday, April 24 with dignitaries of the school presiding over a ceremony prior to the start of Regis’ women’s softball and lacrosse contests that day.
The event, which is open to the public, begins at 11:00 am and will include a procession of all of the college’s varsity sports teams, blessing of the fields, and cookout. Regis College President Dr. Mary Jane England and board of trustee member Judy Lauch are also expected to throw out ceremonial first pitches at the softball game.
Ground-breaking construction of the $8.5 million project commenced in April, 2009 by Richard White and Sons and was completed in August. Included in the development, which has been in use by Regis’ Division III athletic teams for the 2009-2010 season, are six tennis courts, an eight-lane track, field events area, synthetic turf field for soccer, lacrosse and field hockey, and a softball complex.
The multi-purpose sports facility is part of Regis’ overall strategic plan to construct new fields and buildings on campus, where the college is anticipating its largest freshmen enrollment in school history this fall.
