Brief Description
This concert will have something for the head, the heart and the toe!
Come hear Italian Classics, indigenous American music, gospel songs, folk turns and rousing spirituals. Join the fun this Saturday!
Italian pieces include Renaissance madrigals and a lilting contemporary folk song, "La Vera Sorrentina" (The girl from Sorrento). The greater part of the program consists of American music. The first set is comprised of sacred music, and the balance of the program features American gospel tunes, folk songs, and rousing spirituals, including Kirby Shaw’s arrangement of "Joshua (Fit the Battle of Jericho)," which the audience at Santa Maria Church in Sant’ Alessio Siculo, after a standing ovation, requested to hear again as an encore. The Handbell Choir will perform an upbeat arrangement of the old favorite, "Bill Bailey." The Chamber Singers will perform an individual set, including close-harmony renditions of "Babylon’s Fallin’" and "Let It Shine!"
