Regis College student on Ellen DeGeneres Show today

September 22, 2014

Regis College freshman Meggan Thermitus is a dedicated fan of Ellen DeGeneres, and the popular comedienne returned the favor by having Meggan participate in her show on September 22. The national broadcast of the Ellen DeGeneres Show at 4 p.m. last Monday on ABC-TV affiliate WCVB - Channel 5 in the Boston area – showed Ellen and Meggan conversing by satellite and Meggan receiving rewards and prizes in the “Cash at Your Dorm” game.

A graduate of South Shore Charter School, Meggan hails from Randolph, Mass., and has been writing to Ellen about how much she loves college life at Regis. Meggan’s academic interests are in pre-med and psychology as she aims to become a physical therapist or physician’s assistant.

“For a week Regis College personnel have been quietly plotting with producers of the Ellen DeGeneres Show to set up this encounter here on campus and keep it top secret,” said Regis Student Affairs Vice President Kara Kolomitz.

The College is in the midst of a major construction project, and last Thursday, September 18 the large satellite truck was nearly invisible amid excavators, backhoes and other heavy equipment. The Regis master plan is transforming the heart of the campus by developing an interior grassy quad, a new residence hall, an expansion of the library, a new patio and a new parking lot, renewing some infrastructure, and rerouting walkways and roads on campus.

“Students are excited about the growth and change at Regis,” added Vice President Kolomitz, “and have taken the construction in stride. But a Regis student appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres Show as the academic year starts? This was serious fun for everyone!“

“Meggan is so thrilled,” said Kelly Treseler, Director of Residence Life at Regis, “still very happily shocked.” With Meggan are her friends, Regis students Tania Duncan and Natalie Silva, along with Jeanie and Rocsi Diaz from Ellen’s show.

A special broadcast occurred in the Lower Student Union at 4 p.m. September 22, and Meggan has expressed her personal thanks to Ellen and to campus personnel in a note to “This Week at Regis.”
