Regis Appoints Dean of Health Sciences

Laura M. BurkeRegis, a leading Catholic university in Greater Boston, is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura M. Burke, ScD, MPH, as dean of the School of Health Sciences.

Since 2008, Burke has served in many roles at Regis including associate professor, program director of Public Health, associate dean and most recently, interim dean of Health Sciences. She launched Regis’ successful public health major, minor and post-baccalaureate certificate, and collaborated on the environmental sciences major. Burke has served on many committees at Regis including faculty council, curriculum and academic policies committee, search committees and the institutional review board.

Burke said, "It has been a privilege to serve at Regis for nine years and contribute to the rapid growth of the Health Sciences. The Health Sciences have grown from three degree programs to 13 and offer multiple certificate programs. I am very excited about the further development of programs in the Health Sciences at Regis and look forward to continued growth through collaboration with faculty, students and industry partners."

Burke has written numerous publications and has presented nationwide in epidemiology, nutrition and interprofessional education curriculum. She is a member of several professional societies including the American Public Health Association, Massachusetts Public Health Association and the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research. She also serves on the President’s Council of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

Burke earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Barnard College-Columbia University, her Master of Public Health at New York Medical College and Doctor of Science at Harvard School of Public Health. Prior to Regis, Burke was a postdoctoral research fellow of epidemiology at Harvard and at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
