President's Notes III.16

Hello, everyone.
At last Spring is here! Aside from the bout of snow yesterday..., the daffodils and hyacinths are coming out. Think positively: Easter is around the corner and summer will soon be upon us.
I am happy to report that the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) has sent formal notification of the action of accreditation taken by ACEN at its meeting on March 13, 2014. The Board of Commissioners granted initial accreditation to the clinical doctor nursing program and scheduled the next evaluation visit for Fall 2018. Congratulations to Karen Crowley, DNP Program Director on this outstanding achievement!

Susan Kennedy, Director of Internships and Career Placement, informs me that approximately 20 students and 2 faculty members (Colleen Malachowski and Naomi Kooker) attended a two-hour tour of The Boston Herald and it was a great success. Thank you, Susan, for organizing the field trip.

President’s Office
I had the great pleasure This month of hosting two nationally acclaimed physicians on campus this month. At left I am with Dr. Louis W. Sullivan on April 3. Dr. Sullivan is a former U. S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. Shortly after his visit to Regis he appeared on Emily Rooney’s “Greater Boston” on WGBH to discuss health care and the ACA.
On the right I am with Dr. Ira Byock on April 14, a prime mover in placing palliative care and end-of-life planning front and center as Americans envision and achieve a brighter future by building capacity to care well for one another throughout life. We are in sun glasses because a brighter future is coming! Regis partnered with the Parmenter Foundation, Parmenter Home Care & Hospice, and Honoring Choices Massachusetts to bring Dr. Byock to Boston. I was pleased that Dr. Lachlan Forrow, director of palliative care at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and many other medical, business, and governmental professionals were with us in round table discussions throughout the day to bring the issues forward and build up a unified effort. The Boston Herald interviewed a Parmenter Hospice client, and you can see the video and related article here. In the article, Dr. Forrow commented on end-of-life planning that “This really is the only issue in all of health care that affects every single one of us and everyone we care about,” Forrow said. “It is just screaming out for a united statewide effort.”
Regis received special notice for having super-high job-placement rates for graduating students. That’s good news. You can read about it here.
A student art exhibition will be held on April 30.
A very blessed and peaceful Easter to you all. Enjoy the break and I look forward to seeing you all when we return on Tuesday. The next issue of President’s Notes should be out on May 1.
P.S. for faculty and staff:
Several AC Members and I will be meeting with U. S. Representative Katherine Clark on Tuesday afternoon, April 22, and giving her a tour of the campus ending up at Morrison House for the 4:30 p.m. Faculty and Staff Wine and Cheese. I hope to see you there.
