Letter to the Regis Community

January 30, 2017

To the Regis community,

I have watched with profound sadness and concern as the impact of President Trump’s executive order on immigration becomes shockingly clear. I call on the President to rescind this order immediately.

Regis is a global institution indelibly shaped by the diversity of our community. I strongly agree with the Association of American Universities which is calling on “… the Administration, as soon as possible, to make clear to the world that the United States continues to welcome the most talented individuals from all countries to study, teach, and carry out research and scholarship at our universities. It is vital to our economy and the national interest that we continue to attract the best students, scientists, engineers, and scholars.”

The Regis leadership team is very concerned about any students or other community members who are directly affected. We are working closely with them to offer every support available.

We commit to you:

  • David Crisci, director of our Center for Global Connections, is available for assistance and referrals to outside agencies and attorneys.
  • Student Affairs staff at both the undergraduate and graduate level are available 24-7.
  • All students are eligible for counseling through Regis College Health Services.
  • The Offices of Campus Ministry and Service and Diversity and Inclusion are available to meet with anyone in the community with concerns.
  • The university will do everything within its legal powers to support our community and keep our members safe.
  • Outside the established requirements of the visa-sponsorship programs we participate in, the university does not provide lists or other information based on an individual’s immigration or citizenship status to external parties or authorities.
  • Campus police will not detain, seek out, or assist in deporting a university student or employee solely on the basis of immigration status.

These are indeed uncertain times, but our values have not changed since the Sisters of Saint Joseph founded Regis 90 years ago. We will always welcome all without distinction and remain committed to caring for our dear neighbor.

Best,

President Antoinette Hays
