Regis, a leading Catholic university in Greater Boston, will host a forum on the opioid addiction crisis on April 26, 2017, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Fine Arts Center on the Weston campus.

The forum, “The Opioid Addiction Crisis/Treatment,” will feature a discussion on treatment and prevention from the provider perspective and policy approaches at state and national levels. The audience will also hear directly from an addict in recovery. The event is free and open to the public.

The panel, moderated by Shelby Ortega, PhD, assistant professor of Counseling Psychology at Regis, includes: Daniel P. Alford, MD, MPH, director of the Clinical Addiction Research and Education Unit at Boston Medical Center; Kevin T. Henze, PhD, CPRP, staff psychologist at the Mental Health Recovery and Rehab Treatment Program at Edith N. Rogers Memorial VAMC; Maryanne Frangules, LMHC, CCS, CADAC, LADC, executive director of the Massachusetts Organization for Addict Recovery (MOAR); and Jared H. Owen, MS, communications coordinator at MOAR.

“The increase in opioid abuse has led to a crisis of epic proportions,” said Regis President Antoinette Hays, PhD, RN. “Providers must play a role in halting the epidemic at both the individual and policy levels. I am pleased we are bringing this important dialogue to Regis.”
