Dear Regis community,
Commencement is such a treasured part of the academic experience. Our students work so diligently guided by knowledgeable faculty and supportive staff members. Many of our students have overcome significant obstacles on the way to these hard-earned degrees. Nothing fills my heart with joy more than the honor of handing the graduating students their degrees while proud families snap photos that will be long-treasured as a reminder of the significance of this accomplishment.
So you can see, this was not an easy decision to make. After considering a great deal of student input and consulting with Regis leadership, I must sadly inform you that Regis College’s 90th Commencement must be postponed. Unfortunately, due to current public health guidelines, it will likely not be safe to host such a large ceremony. Therefore all Regis College events scheduled through June 1 are postponed or cancelled. This includes Commencement on May 9 and all of the events leading up to it. Unfortunately, we are forced to make this decision now so our community members can plan accordingly.
At this time, we are not able to confirm a new Commencement date. However, we are exploring the possibility of hosting some of the smaller recognition ceremonies virtually this spring. We are so eager to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2020.
In addition, we are exploring alternative options for reunion weekend for our beloved alumni.
We understand that this is disappointing news. Our obligation is first and foremost for the health and safety of our entire community, and I did not make this decision lightly. I am keeping you and your families in my thoughts and prayers. And I ask all of you to keep our nursing and health sciences students, alumni and faculty members who are working to take care of COVID-19 patients in your prayers as well. Once we get this public health crisis under control, we look forward to celebrating Commencement 2020 with you all.
