The Second Year Experience Program
Through the Second Year Experience Program (SYE), sophomores continue to build on the personal, academic, and career foundations developed during their first year of college. Key to this process is the ongoing development of each student’s individualized, developmental advising-based Life and Learning Plan, whereby a faculty advisor assists the student to set, assess, and pursue goals in these three areas. In addition, a growing sense of community is fostered through such second-year class activities as the traditional sophomore class dinner with President Mary Jane England and second year faculty advisors.
The purpose of the SYE is to help sophomores:
- Learn more about themselves so that they can make purposeful and realistic choices about their field of study.
- Identify opportunities that will help them to explore their career options and build skills necessary for survival in the world after college.
- Build a stronger link between themselves and their faculty advisors through ongoing academic advising sessions and development of their Life and Learning Plan.
- Build camaraderie within their class through social activities and service to others.
