Didi Weinreb
Head Tennis Coach
Didi Weinreb was appointed the Head Tennis Coach at Regis College in April of 2007.
Coach Weinreb has a long history of coaching experience. Currently the Varsity Girls Coach at The Rivers School in Weston, Mass., Coach Weinreb has had coaching stints in a variety of tennis levels. Most recently, she served as the Girl's Junior Varsity Coach at Weston High School in the Spring 2007 and Women’s Junior Varsity Coach at Tufts University in the Fall of 2006, and was the Junior Varsity Girls Tennis Coach at Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Mass. during the Spring, 2006 season.
Coach Weinreb is a certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association, a member of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, and a member of the United States Racket Stringers Association. In addition, Coach Weinreb has served as an adult league coordinator for over ten years with USA Tennis-New England. Although she is not currently serving in that capacity, she serves the group on a consulting basis. Coach Weinreb began her coaching career as an Assistant Tennis Pro at the President Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., from 1984 to 1985.
Growing up in South Florida, Coach Weinreb learned to appreciate the game at a very young age, competing at a high level by the age of 11. She has held #1 rankings in New England for both Singles and Mixed Doubles, and regularly travels to compete in national competitions with adult teams.
Charlene Sargeant
Assistant Coach
Charlene joined the Regis Tennis coaching staff in September 2007. She was nationally ranked as a junior and played NCAA Division I collegiate tennis at the University of Wisconsin while obtaining a degree in Pharmacy. During the summer school breaks, she taught tennis at the University of Michigan summer camp for children and also at a local tennis club in Wisconsin teaching both juniors and adults of all levels. Charlene is a Registered Pharmacist and worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 13 years. She is currently an Assistant Tennis Pro at the Westboro Swim and Tennis Club.
Julie Hom-Mandell
Assistant Coach
Coach Julie Hom-Mandell joined the Regis Tennis coaching staff in the fall of 2007. Coach Hom-Mandell played NCAA Division I collegiate tennis at Georgetown University while obtaining her degree in both Psychology and Studio-Arts. She was selected to the Big East Conference All-Academic Team in 1997 and 1998 and was the Comeback Player of the Year in her senior year. Julie has being playing competitive tennis since she was 10 yrs old and was ranked as high as #4 in New England. She is currently the art teacher at Weston High School as well as the Girl’s Varsity Tennis Coach. In addition, Hom-Mandell is teaching and running an after school junior tennis program at the Weston Middle School.
Ericka Bueno
Volunteer Coach
Ericka Bueno joined the Regis College Women’s Tennis Program as a Volunteer Assistant Coach in the fall of 2007. This is her first experience as a tennis coach and she is thrilled to embark on this journey with the Regis athletes. After joining the program in this capacity, Coach Bueno says: “I discovered a hidden vocation for coaching that had been dormant through my years in college and grad school; now that I have started coaching, I don’t think I will be able to stop!”
Coach Bueno is a native of Colombia, where she started playing tennis at age three and was ranked within the top three in her home state and top 15 in her country from ages 8 to 15. Coach Bueno took a long hiatus from tennis to attend college in her native country, where there is little to no infrastructure for competitive sports at the college level. Coach Bueno graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad del Valle, Cali, Colombia, in the spring of 2000. She then moved on to Boston, MA where she earned her doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University in the spring of 2006. After her Doctorate graduation, Coach Bueno resumed playing competitive tennis in the fall of 2006. She now actively participates and competes in United States Tennis Association New England tournaments and leagues, where she holds a singles record of 15-4 over the last year; as well as in several local doubles and singles leagues. Coach Bueno currently works at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering as an Associate Research Scientist. She resides in Charlestown, Mass.
